Normal confirmation times
| Network | Typical time to confirm |
|---|---|
| TRON (TRC20) | A few seconds per block; finalized in about a minute |
| BNB Chain (BEP20) | A few seconds |
| Ethereum (ERC20) | About 12 seconds per block; longer with a low fee |
| Bitcoin | About 10 minutes per block; wait for confirmations |
Times vary with network load and the fee paid. Exchanges often wait for several confirmations before crediting.
Why a USDT transfer stays pending
- Low fee on Ethereum: miners and validators pick higher-fee transactions first.
- Exchange processing: an exchange withdrawal shows “processing” before it is even broadcast.
- Not enough TRX for energy: on TRON, the sender’s transaction may fail rather than stay pending.
- A fake: the “pending” status exists only on the payer’s screen or a fake explorer.
Why pending is risky
A pending transaction can be replaced by another one that spends the same funds. On bitcoin this is the core of flash bitcoin. On Ethereum a sender can replace a pending transaction using the same nonce. Wait for confirmation, then check the token contract.
How to check
Paste the hash into the real explorer. If it shows success and confirmed, check the contract and recipient. If it is not found, there is no transaction. How to check flash USDT.

“Processing” at an exchange is not on chain yet
When someone withdraws USDT from an exchange, the exchange often shows “processing” or “pending” before it has even broadcast the transaction. Large exchanges batch withdrawals and run checks, which can take minutes or, during reviews, hours. Until the exchange provides a transaction hash that you can find on the explorer, nothing has been sent. A payer who shows you an exchange “processing” screen has not paid you yet.
Why a transfer gets stuck
| Network | Common cause of a long pending state |
|---|---|
| Ethereum | Gas price set too low for current demand |
| TRON | Rare; transfers usually confirm or fail fast. Missing energy makes them fail, not hang. |
| BNB Chain | Rare; usually a wallet display issue |
| Bitcoin | Fee rate too low; can wait for hours or days |
On Ethereum, the sender can speed up a stuck transaction by replacing it with the same nonce and a higher fee, or cancel it by replacing it with a zero-value transfer to themselves. That is legitimate. It is also exactly why you should not act on a pending payment from a stranger.
Fake pending screens
Some scammers never broadcast anything. They show a wallet screen or a fake explorer with “pending” and ask you to release goods “because it is on the way”. Ask for the hash, open the real explorer and search it. If it is not found, nothing is pending.
What to do while you wait
- Get the hash.
- Open the real explorer and bookmark the transaction page.
- Refresh until it shows success and confirmations.
- Check the token contract and the amount.
- Then, and only then, complete your side of the deal.
USDT still pending: what to check, in order
When USDT is still pending, check where it is pending. “Pending” means different things in a wallet, on an explorer and at an exchange.
| Where it says pending | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Explorer shows pending | The transaction is broadcast but not yet confirmed | Wait, and check the fee paid |
| Wallet shows pending, explorer shows nothing | The transaction was not broadcast, or failed | Check the hash; it may need to be resent |
| Exchange withdrawal shows processing | The exchange has not sent it yet | Wait or contact exchange support |
| Only the sender’s screenshot shows pending | Possibly nothing was sent | Ask for the hash and check yourself |
USDT ERC20 pending: why Ethereum transfers wait
A USDT ERC20 pending transfer usually waits because the fee was too low for current demand. The transaction sits in the mempool until validators include it, or until it is dropped.
- The sender can speed it up by resending with the same nonce and a higher fee.
- The sender can also cancel it by replacing it, which is why a pending payment is not money received.
- Busy periods raise fees for everyone.
TRON and BNB Chain transfers usually confirm quickly, so a long pending status there is more unusual. See USDT ERC20 explained.
USDT payment pending: why sellers should wait
A USDT payment pending is not a payment received. Scammers use this gap.
- They send a transaction that will be replaced or dropped.
- They show you the pending hash and push you to release.
- After you release, the transaction disappears or is replaced.
Release only after the transaction is confirmed and the balance is in your wallet. See blockchain finality.
Pending USDT transfer screens that are fake
Some pending USDT transfer screens are not real at all. Fake wallet apps and edited screenshots show “pending” to explain why nothing has arrived.
- Search the hash on the explorer yourself. A fake hash returns nothing.
- A “pending” status in a fake app can last forever.
- Requests to pay a fee to “push” a pending transfer are scams.
See fake payment proof and fake wallet apps.
Questions about pending USDT
How long is too long for a pending USDT transfer?
On TRON and BNB Chain, more than a few minutes is unusual. On Ethereum, it depends on the fee paid and network demand.
Can I cancel a pending USDT transfer I sent?
On Ethereum, sometimes, by replacing it with a higher-fee transaction from the same wallet. Once confirmed, it cannot be cancelled.
Questions people ask
Why is my USDT transaction pending?
It has not been included in a block yet, often due to a low fee or exchange processing.
How long does a USDT transfer take?
Seconds to a minute on TRON and BNB Chain, about a minute on Ethereum in normal conditions.
Can a pending USDT transaction be cancelled?
It can fail or be replaced before confirmation. Once confirmed, it is final.
Should I release goods if the payment is pending?
No. Wait until the explorer shows it confirmed.
