BEP20 (BNB Smart Chain) uses 0x addresses like Ethereum, low fees in BNB, and Binance-Peg USDT at 0x55d398326f99059fF775485246999027B3197955 with 18 decimals. Its main fake risk is cheap copy tokens and copy tokens with a tiny trading pool that shows a price. See flash USDT BEP20.
Which network to use
Use the network the receiver asks for and supports. Exchanges list the networks they accept for USDT deposits. If you send on a network the receiver does not support, the funds may be lost or need a slow manual recovery. Check the network name on both sides before every send.
The 0x trap
Ethereum and BNB Chain addresses look the same, and the same wallet address can exist on both. Sending ERC20 USDT to an address that expects BEP20, or the reverse, is a common and costly mistake. Some scammers exploit it by asking for payment “on BEP20” to an exchange address that only accepts ERC20, then claiming they never received it.
How the flash trick differs by network
- TRC20: the most copy tokens, because sending to many wallets costs almost nothing. Flash USDT TRC20.
- ERC20: fewer sprayed copies, more fake “claim” sites that ask for approvals. Flash USDT ERC20.
- BEP20: copies plus fake liquidity pools that make a price appear. Flash USDT BEP20.
Checking on any network
The method is the same: real explorer, hash, token, contract. Paste a contract below to compare it with all three official ones.
Background on each network: what USDT TRC20 is and what USDT ERC20 is.
Choosing a network, in practice
-
01 Ask the receiver
- Which network?
- TRC20, ERC20 or BEP20
-
02 Check support
- Exchange deposit page
- lists networks
- Wallet
- shows network per token
-
03 Check fees
- TRON
- low, in TRX
- Ethereum
- variable, in ETH
- BNB Chain
- low, in BNB
-
04 Test first
- Send
- a small amount
- Then
- the rest
The most expensive mistakes
| Mistake | Outcome |
|---|---|
| TRC20 sent to an ERC20 address | Usually not possible: addresses differ in format |
| ERC20 sent to a BEP20 address (same 0x) | Arrives on Ethereum; recoverable only if the receiver controls that address there |
| Sent to an exchange on an unsupported network | May need a support ticket, a fee, or be lost |
| Sent to the USDT contract address | Usually lost |
Other networks
USDT also exists on Solana, some Ethereum layer 2 networks and other chains Tether lists. Each has its own contract. The same rules apply: match the network, check the contract, test first. USDT on Solana covers the Solana specifics.
Scams that use network confusion
Some fake buyers deliberately send on the wrong network, then insist you were paid. Others ask you to “switch networks” through a link that is really an approval request. Keep the network fixed in writing and check every hash on the explorer that matches it.
Which USDT network should you pick for a payment?
Which USDT network to use depends on what the receiver supports. The cheapest network is useless if the receiver cannot credit it.
| Situation | Usually best | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small payment to a person | TRC20 or BEP20 | Low fees, fast confirmation |
| Deposit to an exchange | Whatever the exchange lists for that address | Wrong network deposits can be lost |
| Using Ethereum DeFi apps | ERC20 | The apps run on Ethereum |
| Receiving from a stranger | The one you name in advance | So you know where to check |
USDT BEP20 vs ERC20: the same-looking addresses
USDT BEP20 vs ERC20 confusion is common because both networks use 0x addresses of the same length. An address on one is also valid on the other.
- If you send BEP20 USDT to an exchange address that only supports ERC20, the funds may not be credited.
- If you control the private key, you can usually access funds on both networks from the same wallet.
- Exchanges may recover wrong-network deposits in some cases, often for a fee.
Always pick the network on the deposit page first, then copy the address shown for that network.

A token named USDT with any other contract on these networks is a copy. See USDT contract address.
Network confusion scams
- A buyer says they paid on a network you did not agree, and asks you to “check there” via a link.
- A seller says your deposit went to the wrong network and asks for a fee to move it.
- A fake support agent offers to recover a wrong-network deposit if you share your phrase.
Agree the network in writing before any payment, and check only on explorers you open yourself. See USDT not showing.
Questions about USDT networks
Is one network’s USDT worth more than another?
No. Official USDT on each network is redeemable with Tether and trades around one dollar.
Can flash USDT exist on one network but not another?
Copies exist on all of them. The check is the same everywhere.
Questions people ask
What is the difference between USDT TRC20 and ERC20?
TRC20 runs on TRON with T addresses and fees in TRX. ERC20 runs on Ethereum with 0x addresses and gas fees in ETH. Both are issued by Tether.
Is BEP20 USDT the same as ERC20 USDT?
No. BEP20 USDT is Binance-Peg USDT on BNB Chain, backed by USDT that Binance holds. It uses 0x addresses but a different network.
Which USDT network is cheapest?
TRON and BNB Chain usually cost less than Ethereum. Fees change with demand.
What happens if I send USDT on the wrong network?
Funds may be lost or need a manual recovery by the receiving exchange. Always match the network.
